Unlike lasers, IPL is a wide spectrum and the wavelength is from 400nm to 1200nm. After the light is absorbed, which transfers the heat to the hair follicle, causing it to burn and damage. IPL is short for Intense Pulse Light. IPL is a wide range light spectrum from 400nm to 1200nm. This light is used to target specific cells in your body, to either denature them or stimulate them depending on the desired outcome from the IPL treatment. Intense pulsed light has the advantages of non- invasiveness, high safety, and short recovery time. During the treatment process, surgical incisions or medication injections are usually not required, greatly reducing the risk of infection and complications. The working process of intense pulsed light mainly consists of the following steps. Firstly, the IPL machine generates high-energy pulsed light within a specific wavelength range. These lights contain light of different wavelengths and can target different skin problems.

IPL for hair removal

The IPL light can directly target on the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding arears. The melain in the hair follicle will absorb the IPL light, causing a buildup of energy which turns to heat. IPL for pigmentation removal

Intense pulsed light works on the surface of the skin, a portion of the light will penetrate the epidermal layer and penetrate deep into the dermis layer. For skin with pigmentation problems, such as freckles, sunspots, etc., specific wavelengths of light will be selectively absorbed by abnormal pigment particles. This absorption will cause the pigment particles to heat up and be destroyed, and then gradually metabolized and excreted by the body’s immune system, thereby achieving the effect of fading pigmentation.

IPL for vascular lesions

For skin with vascular problems such as spider veins, the corresponding wavelength in strong pulsed light will be absorbed by hemoglobin. Hemoglobin that absorbs light energy will heat up and solidify, causing dilated capillaries to contract and close, thereby improving the redness of the skin.

IPL for skin rejuvenation

IPL can also stimulate collagen proliferation and recombination in the dermis layer. This is because the energy of light can cause slight thermal damage to skin tissue, which triggers the body’s self repair mechanism. During the repair process, fibroblasts accelerate the production of new collagen, making the skin firmer and more elastic, reducing wrinkles and sagging.

Generally speaking IPL procedure is smooth and effective treatment. While you may feel a slight tingling or pinch (similar to the snap of a rubber hand) from the IPL handpiece, most people tolerate the procedure very well.
